About

A quick recap of my life as a developer.

  • Graphic Communication & Multimedia

    September 2010

My secondary education existed in Graphic Communication & Multimedia. This education covered a wide variety of topics such as designing all kind of marketing pieces. Branding, book covers and posters are a few examples of these.

Designing wasn't the main reason that I had chosen this as my secondary education, I wanted to learn to develop small and big applications. Sadly this wasn't such a big thing in secondary education. We saw a little amount of HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript.

Although they only covered such a low amount of coding languages I spend my free time learning on my own. I did learn HTML5, CSS3, Javascript and PHP which made me fall in love with developing web applications. I developed a few things in my secondary education such as a business website for a wood worker and a small private game. These were made out of static HTML and a bit of PHP to handle small forms.

  • Applied Informatics - Application Development

    September 2015

College, finally, CODING! I applied for the Bachelor of Applied Informatics with the Application Development branch as my main study. I was so hyped to go to college, finally dedicated coding courses. Learning to develop good and big-scaled applications.

In short I learned the basics of a lot of programming languages, such as C#, Java, Javascript and PHP. C# and Java were the two main languages our school focused on to create big scaled applications.

Java, we created small console programs used for filtering data and making small but useful applications. We never learned to create a visual desktop application with Java, I did do this on my own because it sounded interesting. Later on we used Java to create back-ends with JPA Hibernate. In the long run I learned to use Springboot for back-ends.

C# was the same way as Java but we did create WPF applications, these applications were used to show, edit and filter data as well. Same as Java we learned to create basic back-ends in C# and a front-end with razor templates.

Our knowledge to create the front-end was given by a course called Web, web was given in three stages. Basics, advanced and expert. The basics were easy because I already had a good knowledge of this from my secondary school. My knowledge from secondary school was challenged by a mercedes dealer to develop a business website which needed the function to update frequently. So I opted for a Wordpress website, which I finished. But back to the web subject, at expert level we created NodeJS back-ends together with a Angular(TS) front-end.

During the advanced part of web we learned to develop web applications using PHP. We learned to use the basic PHP and autoloader to create our own PHP REST API. After the knowledge of creating an autoloader we had the chance to use a framework called Laravel.

I never had the chance to dive in to one language and specialize in one. But I must say I now know the difference between a lot of the programming languages. These differences give me the knowledge to chose which one is better for a given project.
